Wanda Lee Kinsey (nee Tanksley)

Wanda Lee Kinsey (nee Tanksley), age 79, of Mill Creek, IN, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Wanda was born on April 4, 1947, in Molden, Alabama to the late Price and Lucy (nee Chaney) Tanksley.  In 1959, she and her family moved to Mill Creek, IN, where Wanda resided for the rest of her life.  Wanda attended Mill Creek Schools.  During that time, she met Robert Kinsey in 1962 and married him on October 12, 1963.  Wanda worked for 25 years with Kingsley Furniture until their closing and retired from Howmet Aerospace as an assembler after 20 years.

Wanda was a fantastic “Cooker and Mom” as she would put it.  From a young age, Wanda cooked meals for her dad and siblings.  With a lifetime of cooking skills, she was known for making delicious meals including “too salty taters” and “sour green beans”.  She enjoyed cooking traditional meals – no new recipes- and instilled family connection during every holiday, especially her favorite: Easter.

Wanda’s whole world was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She would do anything for them and earned the nickname “Granny with the most sunshine”.  When a baby was present at any get together, Wanda would hold the baby the entire time.  She was even known to ride a mini four-wheeler and play on the slip and slide for her great-grandkids, even though she broke her tailbone doing the latter.

Wanda led her family with a strong yet loving hand, earning her the same love and devotion that she poured out to others. She was always there to help anyone whether it was lending money, time, or a listening ear.  Wanda was everyone’s go-to person and the glue that held her family together.  Her devotion to her family, traditional values, and delicious meals will be remembered by all who knew her.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; children: James and Rebecca; grandchildren: Michael (Brandy), Scott (Patty), Jacob (Shawna), Joseph (Harley), Jesenia (Eli), and Victoria; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Amelia, Liam, Max, Jameson, Ethan, Marcy, Kessley, Ryker, Wiet, Emory,; siblings: Junior (Barb) Tanksley and Sarah Leach; sister-in-law: Carol Tanksley; and her beloved dog: Duke.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents: Price and Lucy; son: Roy; great-grandson: Damien; and siblings: Irving, Willard, Dafford, Alfred, Alton, Waylon, and Virginia.

Family and friends may gather at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Service (602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN 46350) on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.  A funeral service will take place at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Ahlemeyer officiating.  Cremation will follow.

Jack G. Barnes

Jack G. Barnes was born on 28 FEB 1935, in Blytheville, AR to Freddie (Russel) Barnes and Roy Barnes, the third child of eight total. His siblings included, Robbie Barnes (deceased), Betty Nichols (deceased) --- twin sister of Jack, Shirley Liles (Michigan City, IN), Carlos Barnes (deceased), Richard Barnes (La Porte, IN), Marilyn Childers (deceased), and Ralph Barnes (St. Petersburg, FL).

On 18 AUG 1962, he married Beverly V. Eley at the United Methodist Church in North Judson, IN. They were blessed with two children, Brent (Paige) Barnes (Myrtle Beach, SC) and Desiree (Paul) Molinaro (Acworth, GA.). With a total of four grandchildren, they are as follows: Alec (Bradley) Molinaro (Seattle, WA), Logan (Stephanie) Molinaro (Acworth, GA), Kylee Barnes (Charleston, SC), and Sydney Molinaro (Athens, GA).

Before meeting Beverly and prior to being drafted, Jack volunteered for the US Army in 1955. He served his country honorably in the US Army from 1955-57, while on active duty. He was selected and trained as a combat engineer. Upon successful completion of his initial entry training for active-duty, he was asked to convert to the military police due to the needs of the Army; he said sure, I’ll do whatever you need me to do. He then subsequently served in the Indiana National Guard from 1957- 1961, again culminating with an honorable discharge. Jack loved the US Army, this country, our flag and what it stands for.

Jack successfully served 43 years as a NIPSCO Gas Servicemen and was also a skilled Pipefitter. Dependable and consistent with an extraordinary work ethic, Jack was highly dedicated to always giving his best effort.

After retiring, Jack and Beverly spent time traveling to see their grandchildren, their daughter Des and her family while they lived in South Carolina & Georgia, and their son Brent and his family wherever they were stationed at in the US Army, including Hawaii, Germany, Rhode Island and Florida. As he gradually lost his eyesight, Jack and Beverly traveled less, yet he still liked to go out to eat with family and friends.

God blessed Jack in so many ways, as he would say with fortitude. He also often stated his love for his wife, children as well as grandchildren and was most admittedly blessed when he accepted Jesus as his savior, later in his adulthood.

On August 8, 1987, Brian married the love of his life, Wendy Cornell. Together they shared more than 38 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, laughter, and family. Of all the roles he held throughout his life, being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather brought him the greatest happiness.

Brian possessed a lifelong passion for music that became one of the defining joys of his life. A talented drummer, he performed with several bands over the years, most recently with The Chuck Galloway and The Country Showmen. His love for music extended far beyond the stage. In 1982, he built a fully functioning recording studio in his home, a labor of love that he relocated three different times before finally establishing it in the basement of the home he and Wendy built together. There, Brian welcomed countless local musicians, recording demo tapes, producing music, and even creating professional voice-over recordings. His studio became a place where creativity flourished, friendships were formed, and memories were made.

When he wasn't surrounded by music, Brian found peace in the beauty of the outdoors. He took tremendous pride in the home and property he and Wendy lovingly created together. He delighted in caring for his lawn, planting vibrant flowers, and watching each season bring new colors to bloom. Evenings spent around the backyard fire pit with family and friends were among his favorite moments. Brian also had a special place in his heart for his beloved cats, Clarence and Sadie, who were cherished members of the family.

Brian's kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he treasured and the countless lives he touched through his generosity, his music, and his quiet acts of kindness.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 38 years, Wendy Roseman; his children, Sonja Fisher (Melvin), Tonja Workman (Jeremiah), Michael Cornell (Amanda), and Kimber Cornell (Jonny); his grandchildren, Sean Cornell (Shelby), Evan Glick, Alex Fisher and Andrew Fisher; his great-grandchildren, Adilynn and Jaxon; his brothers, Gary Roseman (Joyce) and Kelly Roseman; many loving nieces and a nephew; and his faithful feline companions, Clarence and Sadie.

Rosaline J. Blastick (formerly Beahler)

Rosaline J. Blastick (formerly Beahler), 98, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on Saturday evening, June 20, 2026, and her entire family in spirit.

Rosaline was known as “Rose” and in her later years, “Rosie” and was born on November 10, 1927, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to the late Frank and Louise (Vitoux) Holzapfel .

Rosaline was first married to William J. Beahler, with whom she shared 62 1⁄2 years of devoted marriage, 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Following William's passing, she married Harry R. Blastick. Both husbands preceded her in death.

She is and will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Suzanne Rinker of Union Mills, Sherry Shei of Hanna, Theresa (Thomas) Wozniak of Michigan City, and Lisa (John) Rosebaum of Union Mills.

Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren: Jason Shei, Brett (Kynda) Rinker, Kelly (Brandon) Adair, Kara (Sean) Schoch, Jennifer (Randy) Filo, Andrea (Rick) Welsh, Tara (Mark) Worthley, Traci (Dan) Paff, Heath (Natasha) Rosebaum, and Benjamin (Tanner) Rosebaum; and her beloved 21 great-grandchildren: Sidney, Jack, Abby, Sara, Kylie, Kate, Sophie, Emma, Hope, Taylor, AJ, Max, Alli, Ellie, Anna, Michael, Cooper, Nick, Rylee, Jilly, and Rowan. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Holzapfel and Regina Higgins.

Rosaline was also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, James Shei and Donald Rinker and her siblings, Simon Holzapfel , Mary Hannon, Ann Gannon, Catherine McGinley, Frank Holzapfel , and Robert Holzapfel.

Rosaline was dedicated and hard-working, retiring from the Westville Correctional Center in the 1990s and previously working for La Porte County State Board of Health. She was a devout Catholic parishioner and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah and formerly belonged to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Kingsford Heights.

To her family, Rosie was the matriarch, a strong woman who set the example for her generations of family to come. Her way was always God first, but with her family always by her side. In her retirement years with Bill, they loved to travel the country in their 5th wheel camping trailer. They eventually settled in Florida for the winters as snowbirds, where Rosie loved coordinating Bingo (where Grandpa would call out the numbers in his big booming voice) and planning a never-ending itinerary of fun for her camping group.

Above all, Rosie loved spending time with her daughters and their families more than anything else, (except maybe playing those slots at the casino). She cherished all the moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grands, whether it was playing cards, teaching them to bake, painting nails, building leaf houses or houses from her clothes line, whiffle ball games, and the list goes on. She celebrated the sporting and academic achievements throughout the years, and she and Grandpa were so proud of their grandchildren. You also never walked into her home without smelling something in the oven, whether it was her famous apple or peach pie, maple nut rolls, Christmas fudge or a delicious roast baking in the oven. She really did it all. We will remember the smile on her face when she saw us and her laugh of happiness as she thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her loved ones. We will also never forget her undying faith and her end-of-life journey, when her final breath was taken after she conveyed to her family she would like them to recite the Rosary. During the recitation of the 5th Joyful mystery, the finding of Jesus in the temple, Rosie took her last breath on this planet and let herself go to the arms of her Lord Savior. She passed the way she long desired, and the way she lived her life.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana (https://www.google.com/maps/search/1117+Indiana+Avenue,+La+Porte,+Indiana?entry=gmail&source=g), where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m.

Also surviving are his son, Jason (Cynthia) Ash of New Carlisle, IN; 2 daughters, Amanda (Vincent) Bowman of Bradenton, FL, Jenna (Andrew) Franks of Ruskin, FL, 10 grandchildren, Kailey (Miles) Kalk, Ethan, Peyton, and Chloe Ash, Logan, Harper, and Margaret Bowman, Reese, Jackson, and Britton Franks, step-grandaughter, Jessica Morris; 3 great grandchildren, Adalynn, Alayna and Miles Kalk, Jr.; 1 sister, Margaret Trees of Hendersonville NC; mother and father-in-law, Lois and Laverne Korell; sister-in-law, Lynn (John) Pena of Labelle, FL; brothers-in-law, David (Pam) Harris of New Carlisle, IN, Tom (Cathy) Korell of La Porte, IN; several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in- law, Leah Rae Harris; brother-in-law, Phillip Trees; and daughter-in-law, Angie Ash.

A devoted follower of Christ, Roger began ministering at a young age. Following bible college he took a detour into the business world, working as a field consultant with McDonald’s Corporation, while always doing lay ministry on the side. After 25 years Roger answered his calling into full time ministry and was ordained in 2001. He served as Executive Pastor at Countryside Christian Church, Michigan City, IN, and La Porte First Church of God, La Porte, IN. After relocating to Florida, he continued his service as Pastor of Care at Wellspring Community Church in Ruskin and as a Shepherd with Standing Stones Ministries where he mentored and counseled other pastors and ministry leaders. He served faithfully until the day the Lord called him home.

His greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, counseling (especially marriages in crisis), bible studies, mentoring & discipleship. His passion was to lead others to have Godly marriages and to see families restored, he also enjoyed sharing major life events by doing many weddings, funerals, and served many years as a hospice chaplain. His goal in ministry was to lead others to Christ and stand with them in the waters of baptism!

Roger spent his life in service of the Lord, and was a kind, faithful and gentle husband, father, papa, pastor, shepherd, counselor, mentor, and good friend to many!

Most importantly, Roger was a Godly leader in his family, leading by example and loving them well. Nothing made him happier than being with his family.

If Roger could leave one final gift, it would be to offer an invitation to accept Christ as your personal savior and Lord.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” John 3:14-16 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Throughout his life, John was the very definition of a hardworking provider. A true jack-of-all-trades, he worked in maintenance, manufacturing, and truck driving, approaching every job with determination and pride. He was a proud member of the local VFW and American Legion and could often be found marching alongside his fellow servicemen and women in the Fourth of July parade, honoring the freedoms for which they had sacrificed so much.

When he wasn't working or spending time with family, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, tending to his garden, and preparing meals for those he loved. His homemade pizzas became a cherished family tradition, bringing everyone together around the table. He was also an avid animal lover, finding companionship and comfort in the many animals he cared for throughout his life.

George W. Fultz

George W. Fultz, age 84, a lifelong resident of LaPorte, peacefully left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Born on June 16, 1941, in LaPorte, Indiana, George was the son of the late George and Elinor (Strauch) Fultz. He graduated from Rolling Prairie High School with the Class of 1960, where he enjoyed playing basketball and running track. Following graduation, George began a distinguished career as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Bethlehem in Burns Harbor. A proud member of the Union Local 150 Operating Engineers for more than 65 years, he dedicated 40 years of service before retiring on December 29, 2000.

George's life was defined by his unwavering devotion to his faith, family, and community. In 1971, he became a faithful member of First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie, where he worshipped and served for over five decades. George was involved as a Sunday School Teacher. Known for his generous spirit, George was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He never made excuses and never hesitated to help others, whether through his time, talents, or simple acts of kindness. Many church members fondly remember receiving fresh eggs from George, a small gesture that reflected his caring heart.

One of the greatest blessings of George's life was meeting the love of his life, Shelby Perschke. Introduced by friends, it was truly love at first sight. George asked Shelby out during basketball sectionals, beginning a beautiful love story that led to their marriage on October 12, 1963. Together, they shared nearly 63 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.

George cherished every moment spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy. George could always be counted on to support his grandchildren through 4-H competitions, dance recitals, theater performances, livestock shows, baseball games, and many more. his happiest days were spent farming alongside his grandsons, sharing stories, wisdom, and a strong work ethic.  One of George’s last memories made on the farm was bailing hay with his grandson Jared.

An avid outdoorsman and lifelong farmer at heart, George had a deep appreciation for the land. He operated a sawmill, loved his family chickens, and had a lifelong fascination with tractors. As a proud member of the Sunday Farmers Tractor Club, he enjoyed preserving agricultural traditions and sharing his passion with others. He was also a steadfast supporter of the local 4-H community.  George never showed hesitation to help Shelby as she lead the 4-H throughout the years, and he often build desks, ramps, boxes, you name it without asking.  Many folks have come to Shelby asking “Think I could borrow George for the day?” knowing that his never-met-a-stranger kindness would shine.

George was a man who never met a stranger. Whether playing Euchre, Hand & Foot, or Seven Diamonds, enjoying a favorite Fannie May candy, Mr. Goodbar, Klondike Bar, a cold Coke, or an Orange Gatorade, he found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the company of those he loved. He and Shelby enjoyed traveling together throughout the western United States, cruising through Alaska, and taking a memorable Caribbean cruise. A deeply patriotic man, George loved his country and carried a profound respect for the freedoms he cherished.

Stephen E. Janus, Jr.

Stephen E. Janus, Jr., April 5, 1935 - June 5, 2026.
Stephen Eugene Janus passed away on June 5, 2026, at the age of 91.
Steve was born on April 5, 1935, in South Bend, Indiana, to Stephen E. and Florence (Taylor)  Janus, Sr. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame and serving as a chaplain's assistant in the United States Army, he married the love of his life, Karen Woss, on November 26, 1960, in Michigan City, Indiana, who survives in Michigan City, Indiana.
Together they raised three average children: Erin (John) Mule' of Fort Myers, Florida; Stephen "Chip" Janus of Michigan City, Indiana; and Jen (Bill) Gee, his "favorite," of Bryson City, North Carolina. They also raised one extraordinary child, Chris (Beth) Janus of Matthews, North Carolina.
Steve loved his children, but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren: Hannah (Kohki) Ishii, Ben Mule', Noah Mule', Hunter (Colomba) Janus, Emma Janus, Gabe Janus, Olivia Gee, and Isabel Gee. Nothing brought him greater happiness than following their lives, celebrating their accomplishments, and spending time with them. He also leaves behind many cherished friends and a collection of "adopted grandchildren" who were welcomed into the family and loved as his own.
Preceding him in death were his sisters, Marilyn Schultz and Barbara Locke.
After a brief stint in the corporate world, Steve opened Janus Tax and Accounting in Michigan City and dedicated himself to serving his clients and community for decades, continuing to work until the age of 90. He also served several terms as Michigan City's Controller and contributed his time and talents to numerous community boards and organizations.  Steve's commitment to young people extended well beyond his own family.
He spent 15 years coaching Little League baseball, helping teach countless children not only the fundamentals of the game but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.
Outside of work, Steve enjoyed traveling with Karen, spending time with family, golfing, bowling, cheering on his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Green Bay Packers, and Chicago White Sox, and enjoying a Coors Light or two while watching the game. For more than 30 years, one of the highlights of family life was the annual trip to Sanibel Island, where Steve and Karen gathered with family and friends to create memories that will be treasured for generations.  Steve was grumpy, opinionated, and sarcastic, but he loved deeply. Dinner was served precisely at 5:30 p.m., peanut butter and jelly was the only acceptable Friday lunch, and the 9:00 p.m. news was required viewing. In Steve's world, there were usually only two options: his way or the highway. Yet beneath that stubborn exterior was a man of tremendous loyalty, generosity, and love for his family and friends.
A man of deep faith, Steve never missed Sunday Mass. Whether at home or traveling, he always found a church on Sunday. He faithfully served as an usher at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church for more than 60 years, living his faith through quiet service, steadfast devotion, and unwavering commitment to his parish community.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, hard work, and service to the community he loved. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and frequently quoted by those fortunate enough to have known him. And if there is any debate about the proper time for dinner, the right football team to cheer for, or how something ought to be done, those who knew Steve can be certain he is still making his opinion known.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Walter Rakoczy officiating. Entombment will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Chapel of the Chimes, Michigan City, Indiana.   Visitation hours will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

Gayle Briggs Martyn

Gayle Briggs Martyn, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at StoryPoint Senior Living in Chesterton, IN.

Gayle was born on January 15, 1939, to James Gaylen and Elsie Briggs. As the oldest of five children, she was raised on the family farm outside of Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated as an RN from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1960. Seeking a new adventure, she moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and met the love of her life, Mike Martyn. They celebrated 55 years of marriage after being married in a Lutheran Chapel in Ann Arbor on August 26, 1967. They started their family in Detroit, raising children, Lynn and Matt, in Pittsford, New York, and then Troy, Michigan.

Gayle had a lifelong dedication to healing and helping people. She had a full and varied nursing career, also serving as a childbirth educator and finally, a healing touch practitioner. In an entrepreneurial shift, she also became a consultant for seasonal color analysis. Gayle infused all of her interactions with her offbeat sense of humor, childlike curiosity, and enthusiasm for connecting with people.

Gayle's pastimes included music, art, gardening, travel, and walks. Gayle very much had a green thumb, tending her vegetable garden, which Mike would till every spring, bringing the kids berry picking, and canning strawberry jam and pickled beets.

Gayle shared a love of music with Mike. Together they enjoyed their season tickets at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra concerts with friends. Gayle sang in the church choir and was adept at playing both the accordion and piano.

Throughout her life, Gayle was an influential role model for her children, demonstrating an unquenchable zest for learning new skills. Ever creative, one of Gayle's joys was participating in a watercolor painting course she organized at StoryPoint. Lynn and Matteo have framed several of her beautiful pieces in their home in Italy.

Gayle had a lifelong commitment to the Christian faith. She attended the Lutheran Church of the Master in Troy for decades. Becoming "born again" was a revelatory moment in her life and later a guide in surviving lung cancer for over 37 years.
Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; parents; brothers, Robert and John; and sister, Janet.

Gayle is survived by her children, Lynn Michelle Martyn and Matthew (Andrea) James Martyn; two beloved grandchildren, Matteo James and Russet James; sister, Debra (David) Patterson; sister-in-law, Susan Martyn; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at StoryPoint, 700 Dickinson Road, Chesterton, IN 76304.

If Gayle were signing off on this obituary, it would certainly be to wish you "love and blessings" as she closed all her messages and letters.
