Darial Turner

Darial Turner,73, of Greenwood, Indiana, formerly of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Saturday afternoon at his daughter’s home surrounded by loved ones.

Darial was born on December 19, 1953, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to Roscoe Edward Turner and Mima Stamper Turner. The third oldest of ten children, Darial was always taking care of one of the kids. Darial decided to join the military in 1972, where he would end up stationed in South Korea. That is where he would meet Sun Ye Kim. They would marry on October 29, 1974, in Junction City, Kansas, and move to La Porte, Indiana, where they would have two children, Tiffonee and Daniel. Darial and Sun Ye would stay married until her death in March 2013.

Darial had a passion for airplanes and wanted to be a pilot one day. Shortly after leaving the military, Darial would meet Wilbur “Willy” Mathis and begin a lifelong career and friendship working for him at Harrison Engine Service, refurbishing airplane engines. Darial not only got to work with one of his great passions, airplanes, but he also got to have different experiences thanks to Willy and his career at Harrison.

When Darial wasn’t working, he could be found doing one of his favorite pastimes. Fishing on a sunny day or at home relaxing and watching old westerns on TV. Above anything, Darial was a family man and loved his children and grandchildren very much. He loved them so much that his daughter would often lovingly complain that he spoiled them.

He is survived by his children, Tiffonee (Bret) Schoff, Greenwood, IN, and Daniel Turner of La Porte, IN. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Alyvia Ohime of New Buffalo, MI, Matthew and Mima Schoff of Greenwood, IN, Hunter and Sunny Turner of La Porte, Indiana. Also surviving are his siblings, Clay (Dawn) Turner of New Carlisle, Jean (John) Eddy of Kingsford Heights, and Calla (Eric) Arnholz of Mill Creek, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Mima Turner, his wife Sun Ye Turner, his siblings Paul, Carl, Dale, Vicki, Mary, and Roscoe (Rocky), as well as other loved ones and family members.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Pine Lake Cemetery. Darial will be remembered for his kind spirit, generous heart, and deep love he had for his family.
