(La Porte, IN) - A passenger vehicle struck an ambulance containing a patient in La Porte’s downtown area this week.
The accident happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lincolnway and Tyler St.
La Porte Police said the investigation shows Jack Parker did not see the ambulance approaching despite its lights and siren activated and, while pulling out into the intersection, struck the ambulance transporting a patient.
Police said the patient was able to be transported the rest of the way to the hospital. The ambulance was placed out of commission due to moderate front end damage.
No serious injuries were reported.
Police said other drivers as required pulled to the side of the road to allow the ambulance to safely pass before the collision. Failure to yield by Parker was listed by investigators as the primary factor in the crash.
Total damage was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.
