(La Porte County, IN) - A Westville area man stepped out of his vehicle to speak to a police officer, who arrested him for operating while intoxicated.

 

That’s according to Westville Police, who took him into custody outside the police department.

 

Jimmy Pitman, 71, is facing felony allegations because the charge filed in La Porte Circuit Court was upgraded from a misdemeanor due to him having a prior OWI conviction, authorities said.

 

According to the charging information, Pitman about three weeks ago walked up to an officer in the parking lot of the police station to voice an undisclosed complaint. The officer noticed Pitman had an odor of alcohol on his breath and exhibited symptoms of impairment.

 

His alleged blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
