(Michigan City, IN) - Back by popular demand, Michigan City’s Dumpster & Tire Amnesty Program will return in October to help residents clear unwanted clutter, prevent illegal dumping and encourage environmentally friendly disposal.

 

Michigan City residents will have six opportunities to drop off unwanted items at Michigan City Municipal Airport:  Wednesday, Oct. 7 • Saturday, Oct. 10 • Wednesday, Oct. 14 • Saturday, Oct. 17 • Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 24.

 

The program will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day. There is no cost to participate. Participants must present a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID showing Michigan City residency.

 

ACCEPTED ITEMS: • Furniture, including chairs, tables and shelves • Mattresses and box springs • Toys, books and games • Kitchenware, including pots, pans and dishes • Small appliances, including microwaves, toasters and vacuums • Yard tools and equipment • Bicycles and sports equipment • Tires — limit four per household; but no commercial or business tires.

 

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED: • Hazardous waste, including paint, chemicals and batteries • Electronics, including computers and telephones • Large appliances, including refrigerators, washers and dryers • Construction debris, including drywall, bricks, concrete and lumber • Medical waste or sharps • Yard waste, including brush, limbs, shrubs and trees • Items from contractors or businesses • Landlord/tenant move-out debris

 

Participants are responsible for transporting their own items to the drop-off site.

 

THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES ARE NOT PERMITTED: • Box trucks longer than 16 feet • Trailers longer than 16 feet • Flatbed, utility, dump or semi-trucks • Vehicles containing contents that cannot be verified.
