(La Porte County, IN) - A Westville area man spent over $10,000 on foreign currency to find out later the bills were counterfeit.

 

La Porte County Police said the man first purchased Iraqi currency for $4,400 in January from a website and received it later in the mail.  The man went to another similar website in late August and spent over $6,000 on more Iraqi currency.

 

Despite the foreign money containing a certificate of authenticity, police said the man became suspicious and went to a currency exchange, which told him the bills were counterfeit.

 

Police said the man tried reaching one of the sellers but their website was no longer active while he was promised by the other sellers they would exchange the fake bills with real ones.

 

Both websites portrayed to be at the same address in Ft. Worth Texas.
