Ariana Grande says current tour has been a 'beautiful' experience -- because she can see the crowd this time

Ariana Grande Eternal Sunshine tour image (Katia Temkin)

As Ariana Grande nears the end of her Eternal Sunshine tour, she's reflecting on what it's meant to her -- and how it compares to the last time she toured. For one thing, she can actually see her fans this time around.

Speaking to Jessica Vosk, who portrayed Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, Ari says, "This tour has felt like such a beautiful corrective experience for me because I think my last tour I wasn't necessarily in the same place in life and like I wasn't able to be as present as I am this time."

"And I also wasn't wearing contact lenses," she adds. "So to be able to literally, like, actually see and connect ... with them in this way, and just to sing these songs that have been a part of our, like, relationship for like ... 13 years at this point, and just see them and just see them dressed like just strange niche jokes and stuff -- it's just a very long, long term relationship."

Ari's chat with Jessica took place during her shows at Brooklyn, New York. She's currently performing at London's O2 Arena, and those dates wrap up Sept. 1, after which she plans to take a step back from the spotlight.

Nick Jonas reveals he auditioned for 'Frozen' -- and totally bombed

Jonas Brothers are now Disney Legends, but part of that legend could have included Nick Jonas' role in Frozen -- if only he hadn't blown the audition.

In the new episode of the brothers' Hey Jonas! podcast, they chat with Frozen stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad, who will all appear in the upcoming third film in the series. During the talk, Nick reveals that he auditioned for the first film: specifically, for the role of Kristoff.

"I went in and they said, 'Okay, what are you going to be singing today?' I said, 'Oh, I don't know,'" Nick recalls. "They said, 'What do you mean, you don't know?' And I said, 'No one told me I had to [sing].'"

Nick went on to say that because he didn't have any music with him, "I just said, 'Can you play something from' -- I don't know what I said, some musical theater song. And I bombed the audition. It was terrible."

Josh Gad then joked, "You would've had such better chemistry with Kristen than [Jonathan] Groff" -- the actor who ended up with the part.

Kevin Jonas then asked Nick if he was still with the agent who sent him to that audition. Nick said, "No, I've changed agencies three times since then!"

Despite that failure, things worked out pretty well for Nick: He's gone on to book roles in at least a dozen other films.

Woman reveals that Olivia Rodrigo helped her pay for her college tuition

Olivia Rodrigo appears on ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Disney/Randy Holmes)

An unexpected gesture of kindness from Olivia Rodrigo almost made a college student "drop dead": Olivia gave her $5,000 towards her final semester of college tuition.

The University of Alabama student, Jamie Causey, said in a TikTok video that she'd been keeping the news secret for over a year because she didn't want it to become a "public spectacle." According to Causey, Olivia messaged her and told her that she'd seen Causey's video detailing how she was having a problem paying the tuition for her final semester.

“Hi girl! I know you don’t know me but I love your videos so much, you seem like the kindest coolest gal and you are such a source of positivity and light in my life!” Olivia wrote to Causey in a screenshot she shared in her TikTok video.

“I watched ur last vid about tuition and I’d love to help out if you were open at all to that? So cool that you are so close to graduating! Do you have a Venmo I could send to?"

As per a screenshot she shared, Causey wrote back, "Oh my god, hi! I love your music so much. ... I’m actually about to cry.” She told Olivia her Venmo and added, "Honestly your music has been a source of strength for me and I just keep thinking this is a dream. Please don’t feel like you have to but at this point I’m willing to accept any help."

She then shared a follow-up screenshot from Olivia's team confirming that the singer was sending her $5,000.

“Olivia, I don’t know if you’ll ever understand how much that means to me,” Causey added. "You made me feel like I belong on this platform. You didn’t owe me anything. You just chose to show kindness to a stranger. You’ve always been about giving back to others, and that’s something I’ll take with me forever.”

ABC Audio has reached out to Olivia's representatives.

Surf's up: Lady Gaga comes out on top in trademark lawsuit

Lady Gaga, 'Mayhem' (Interscope Records)

Abracadabra! Lady Gaga has emerged the victor in a lawsuit that claimed that the name of her album Mayhem ripped off a trademark owned by a surf company.

Last year, Lost Surfboards filed a suit against Gaga, claiming that the name "Mayhem," as well as the font she was using on merch, would make consumers think that it was connected to the company's Mayhem brand of surfboards, surf accessories, clothing and other merchandise.  But in a Tuesday decision obtained by ABC News, Judge Fernando M. Olguin dismissed the suit with prejudice.

The judge found that because the alleged infringement was connected to a "expressive work protected by the First Amendment" -- an album -- the claim would be extremely difficult to prove.

In addition, the judge found that there was insufficient evidence that the alleged infringement was deliberately designed to mislead the public into thinking their merchandise and Lady Gaga's were connected.

Hilary Duff pays tribute to Hayden Panetierre: 'Really tough hearing this news'

Hayden Panetierre's death has prompted many tributes from those she worked with over the years. But although they never shared a screen together, Hilary Duff took to Instagram to remember the actress as someone who she was able to bond with over their shared experience as young Hollywood stars.

Hilary wrote on Instagram Tuesday, "Sweet Hayden. Really tough hearing this news. We lost touch through the years but I will always remember you as so hardworking and effervescent, with that big, gorgeous smile."

"I remember staying up late, chatting and gossiping, and connecting because we were part of such a small sliver of people who actually understood the strange lot in life we were navigating," she continued. "So young, with no real idea how to make sense of any of it."

"I so deeply wish this wasn't the end for you," she concluded. "Sending a heart full of love to your family, the many people you impacted and everyone who loved you. rest easy."

Panettiere was found in cardiac arrest prior to her death, the Greenville County Coroner's Office said Monday in a press release. The coroner's office said an autopsy was completed on Monday and that "no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death."

Panettiere's official cause and manner of death "remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies," the coroner's office added.

Beginning her career as a child star, with a long list of credits in both TV and film, Panettiere is remembered for her roles as Claire Bennet on the hit series Heroes and as Juliette Barnes on the musical drama Nashville.

She was the mother of one child, daughter Kaya Klitschko, whom she had in 2014 with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are friends ... for good.

After the two Wicked stars reunited during Ari's concert in London on Aug. 16 to sing "For Good" and "Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again," Cynthia took to Instagram to post a photo of the two embracing onstage.

"Ari, my sweet sister, my favorite person to sing with," she wrote. "Thank you for inviting me to share your stage, singing 2 songs that represent such a massive part of our lives. This is what we do it for, for the love of the work and for all of the fans."

"I missed this. We missed this. And I wish I had more words, but to put it simply, I will never forget this night. Like a handprint on my heart."

Ariana replied in the comments, "it’ll always come back to this…  just as it started. i’m so grateful for this moment & for you… love you always."

Dua Lipa's husband says 'having a family and raising some kids' is a priority for him

Now that Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are married, do they plan to have children? Well, it's a priority for the One Night Only actor.

Speaking to Esquire UK, Callum says that his and Dua's wedding was "amazing, and it was the most beautiful day of my life." The wedding he was referring to was the one in London, which was a simple affair at a local registry office, and not their elaborate three-day celebration that took place later in Sicily.

Callum does admit, though, that "it's a weird thing ... when you have such a personal thing happen and then it's also spoken about publicly and by a lot of people." He adds, "I think you just gotta ignore it, is what you got to do."

But when asked what he sees his next decade looking like, Callum says, "Family." Asked if that's a priority for him, he replies, "Obviously, yeah. I'm 36. I'd like to have a family and raise some kids."

No word on what Dua's timetable is for that, but the two seem like they're pretty well matched. Callum tells Esquire, "We both have the same thing in our head that says, ‘Run, roam, see the world, explore and discover.’ And yeah, we love doing it together.”

“It’s nice,” he adds, “to find someone that you love and who loves you and you want to be around all the time.”

Music notes: Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars and more

Are Ariana Grande and her ex-turned-current boo Ricky Alvarez getting serious? According to Page Six, sharp-eyed fans noticed that at the London stop of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, she had a new tattoo on her collarbone, which appeared to read, "I do love you." She posted a photo of those words in an Instagram dump a few days ago. This is significant, because Ricky has the same words tattooed on his collarbone, but in a different font.

Bruno Mars has a new visual coming. According to Entertainment Tonight, Bruno and Latin star Karol G recorded a live video for their emotional duet "Still" during her Aug. 15 show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The song appears on Karol G's latest album, which just came out Aug. 7. Ahead of the big moment, a message flashed on the screen, noting that the two had never performed the song live before, and confirming that the performance was being filmed for an upcoming video.

Katy Perry may be a huge star, and her boyfriend may be the former prime minister of Canada, but they're still totally cringe when it comes to their kids. Justin's son Xavier, who records under the name Xav, shared a video of his dad and Katy reacting to hearing his song "Downtown" come over the PA at a local Montreal hardware store. Justin lip-syncs to the song while waving a plunger around, and Katy jumps around goofily. "My new single Downtown reaction video," Xav captioned the video. "Send me yours."

Fans still 'Choosin'' Ella Langley, including Drake

Ella Langley performs on ABC's ‘CMA Fest presented by SoFi' (Disney/Connie Chornuk)

Everyone, say it with me: Ella Langley is still #1.

The singer's hit "Choosin' Texas" has now racked up an 18th week on top of the Billboard Hot 100. That means it's just one week away from tying the all-time record for a non-holiday song. That record is currently held by two songs: Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," both of which ruled for 19 weeks.

Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the overall leader, with 22 weeks at #1.

Meanwhile, Ella can now count superstar rapper Drake among her "Ella's Fellas" — the name the singer's male fans use to refer to themselves. Drake jumped into the comments of Ella's Sunday Instagram post and wrote "Goated Pen," which is a slang way of saying, "one of the greatest songwriters of all time."

This of course led to multiple fans begging Drake to record a collaboration with Ella.

And she seems to be a Drake fan, as well. On Saturday she posted a TikTok of herself lip-synching to "HYFR," from the Toronto rapper's 2012 album Take Care.

Taylor Swift returns to social media to wish pal a happy birthday

Taylor Swift has emerged from her social media hiatus with happy birthday wishes for a pal.

In 2021 Taylor sang with Phoebe Bridgers on "Nothing New," one of the "vault tracks" on Red (Taylor's Version). In 2023, she declared The Record, the album that Phoebe made with her indie-rock supergroup boygenius, to be "genuinely a masterpiece." And later that year, she tapped Phoebe to open for her on the Eras Tour.

So on Monday, which is Phoebe's birthday, Taylor posted an Instagram Story linking to Phoebe's new album, Lost Weekend. "It's her birthday but she gave us a gift - Haven't been able to stop listening," Taylor wrote.

"This album is an absolute triumph in every way. To write about grief with such vulnerability and details, and to trust the listener with this much honesty," she continued, adding the "heart hands" and "crying" emojis. "Happy Bday @phoebebridgers I love you!!"

Taylor, of course, has been a bit busy lately, which explains her absence on social media. There was that whole "getting married in Madison Square Garden" last month, but for the past few days she's also been in London, where she was attending a friend's wedding.

It's not too good to be true, we can't take our eyes off of this 10 Things I Hate About You musical announcement.

A musical adaptation of the beloved film 10 Things I Hate About You is headed to Broadway in 2027. It will start preview performances on Aug. 17, 2027, in a yet-to-be announced theater. The production's cast and additional creative team members will also be announced at a later date.

"Class begins one year from today. See you August 17, 2027 on Broadway," the production's official Instagram captioned an announcement post.

Lena Dunham wrote the musical's book alongside Jessica Huang. Music and lyrics are by Carly Rae Jepsen and Ethan Gruska. The show's music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements are by Tom Kitt. It will be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon.

This new musical "takes us back to the halls of Padua High. Amid the crushes, cliques, and teenage angst, two sisters set out to define themselves on their own terms. This rebellious new musical is about growing up, discovering yourself, and refusing to live by others’ expectations," according to its official logline.

10 Things I Hate About You is a teenage high school take on William Shakespeare's classic The Taming of the Shrew. The 1999 film starred Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Larisa Oleynik. One of its most-famous scenes finds Ledger's Patrick Verona descending the high school's bleachers as he sings a cover of Frankie Valli's “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You" to woo Stiles' Kat Stratford.

This production marks Dunham's Broadway creative team debut. Jepsen previously performed as the titular princess in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella back in 2014.

Noah Kahan plays biggest headline show to date, with help from Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan performs with Noah Kahan at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Aug. 15, 2026 (Patrick McCormack)

"Hope I made you proud California," wrote Noah Kahan on Instagram. His message came after he concluded the biggest headlining show of his career to date.

Noah took over the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, on Saturday night, performing to a sold-out crowd of over 56,000 fans. In addition to performing his own hit songs, Noah brought Chappell Roan onstage for a joint performance of her song "California."

You can see photos of them together on his Instagram feed, and there's fan-shot video as well. In the video, the two singers fist bump, and Chappell — dressed down in a midriff top and jeans — says, "Noah always stands up for me, seriously. He’s a good person, for real.”

And Noah, calling Chappell by her birth name, Kayleigh, said that "California" was the first song he ever heard by her. He added that the song is "the reason I fell in love with her music," and went on to say, "I’m just really proud of her and grateful that she would come sing with me."

If Noah didn't make California proud with that show, he's got another chance Monday night: He's set to perform at Petco Park in San Diego.

As for Chappell, she's scheduled to perform at Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields festival Aug. 29 at Irvine Park, California.

A 'Wicked' reunion: Cynthia Erivo joins Ariana Grande onstage in London

Ariana Grande defied fans' expectations Sunday night, when she brought out her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo during her concert at London's O2 arena.

Ari is in the middle of her 10-show series at the venue, and the shows mark her first performances in that city in seven years. During Sunday's show — the second in the series — Ari and Cynthia, both dressed in white, sang "For Good," as well as the mashup of "Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again" that they first performed on the Wicked TV special in November.

Ariana's London shows wrap up Sept. 1, after which she plans to take a step back from the spotlight.

In May, Cynthia told Variety that her close relationship with Ari, which was on display for several years as part of the seemingly endless Wicked press tours, was no act.

"I think that people didn’t really believe that we were actually friends,” she said. "But that’s also because people don’t know me very well. If I’m a friend, then I’m a friend. If I’m not, then I’m not.”

According to Cynthia, she and Ariana still text nearly every day. She told Variety, "It’s very interesting, watching what people’s perception is versus what the reality actually is — lots of psychologists seated at home deciding who we were, what we were going through, what we were doing and why.”

Jonas Brothers are Disney Legends.

They were honored Sunday at the company's biannual fan event, D23, where Disney previews upcoming movies, shows, experiences and products while also honoring its history. Fellow Disney kid Vanessa Hudgens was on hand to do the honors.

After taking the stage, the brothers reflected on their longtime connection to Disney. Joe Jonas revealed that his first word was "Gaston" after repeatedly watching Beauty and the Beast, while Nick Jonas recalled playing Chip in the musical on Broadway.

"To our incredible fans, thank you for letting us be a part of your childhood and growing up alongside you all these years," Nick Jonas said. "You gave three brothers from New Jersey, a life beyond anything we could have imagined. We're so grateful."

In addition to Joe, Nick and Kevin, other Disney Legends honored Sunday included Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Ahead of the ceremony, Joe Jonas told ABC News, "Honestly, it's kind of mind blowing that we get to be a part of such like an iconic list of people that we've always looked up to, people that have big imaginations and we're going home as legends."

"I think that we started as fans, like most people, and to get to then work with Disney, have those early days of just being on a set, the confidence they instilled in us as performers and songwriters was invaluable, and it really set us up for success in our career," Nick added.

"And finding our way back the last couple years with the various projects we've done has been so full circle and gratifying."

The brothers reprise their roles as the band Connect 3 in the new Camp Rock 3 movie, which is streaming now on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

I knew it: Taylor Swift sets another chart record

Taylor Swift, 'I Knew It, I Knew You' from 'Toy Story 5' (Walt Disney Records)

If you know Taylor Swift, you know she just can't stop breaking Billboard chart records.

Her latest single, "I Knew It, I Knew You," has topped Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay chart, becoming her 16th leader on that tally. That's a new record: She was previously tied with Maroon 5 with 15. Adam Levine and company now have the #2 spot; Pink is third with 10. Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran are next; they both have eight.

Taylor's accomplishment is more impressive when you consider that her first #1 hit on the tally was "I Knew You Were Trouble" in 2013, which was seven years into her career. Maroon 5 scored their first back in 2004. But their last #1 was in 2021, while Taylor just kept on going. From 2021 to the present day, she's topped the chart nine times.

"I Knew It, I Knew You" is from Toy Story 5. When it was released in June, it became only the third song from an animated Disney movie to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, following "A Whole New World" from Aladdin and "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto.

New Music Friday: Andy Grammer, Benny Blanco and more

Andy Grammer has released "All I Want Is You," another track from his upcoming album, Big Stupid Heart, due out Oct. 16. Andy says of the song, "I can get pretty caught up in chasing the next thing - the next goal, the next accomplishment, whatever I’ve decided is going to make me feel like I’ve finally arrived. ‘All I Want Is You’ is a reminder to myself in song form that my wife and daughters are my north star.”

Benny Blanco has released a new album called Hermoso, which means "beautiful" in Spanish. It's an album that shows off his love for Latin music and features a series of collaborations with artists in that space, including Becky G, The Marías, Myke Towers and of course his wife, Selena Gomez.

Natasha Bedingfield has returned with a new song, "Dot Dot Dot," her first new release in quite a while. The "Unwritten" singer met her co-writer at the home of a pro hockey player, and she says, "To be at an athlete friend’s house felt like parallels to being in the ring and being punched down and asking yourself ‘Why should I keep doing this?’ Then you just get back up and stay because human beings need art. We make art out of the hard stuff we go through. We alchemize it.”

James Blunt is back with a new song called "Taste of Summer," an upbeat jam that does not sound like "You're Beautiful" at all. The video features James' trademark black humor: it shows him boating, driving in a convertible, dancing, drinking on a balcony and frolicking in the water with a guy who's tied up with a bag over his head and tape across his mouth, like a kidnap victim. The end of the video strongly suggests that James has killed the man and that cannibalism may be involved.
